Welcome to Naadyatra

A journey to explore the power and presence of music

At Naadyatra our endeavour is to elevate classical music from its mere performative and auditory aspects to an echelon where dhyaan acquires centrestage. Through the Naadyatra Foundation, we are committed to transforming the perception of Indian classical music and using it to make significant difference in the lives of people. At the same time, we aim to provide a platform to gifted artists to showcase their talents to a wider audience.

Our journey began in 2014, on the banks of the holy river Ganga in the city of Varanasi, with its grand musical legacy as its backdrop. This was Naadyatra's first residential music retreat. And this was followed by similar residential retreats in Anandgram, Delhi, and Aah Himalaya, Uttarakhand.

These retreats served to give participants the experience of living and learning music in a quaint Gurukul setting.

In 2015, Naadyatra  added another chapter to its journey - bringing about social change through music.

In this direction, the Naadyatra team worked with underprivileged children from PratyEk (Delhi), Chanderi village and Bhallar village.

The aim of this ongoing initiative is to impact the approach and outlook of these children towards life, fostering creativity through music and also to create in them an interest and awareness in Indian Arts, Culture & Heritage. The results were remarkable, providing the impetus to further this initiative.

It was in 2018 that the Naadyatra  team embarked on its most challenging and ambitious project of bringing about a change in the approach towards the performance and listening aspect of Classical music.

With the organisation in July 2018 of the first Naadyatra Raagmahotsav at the prestigious venue of IGNCA, New Delhi, the much forgotten aspect of dhyaan in Raag music was brought once again to the fore.

Through this project, our aim is to impact the very approach to music, of not just the discerning listener but also the performer. And the reviews and reactions from the audience garnered from the audience  and critics alike were evidence enough to establish that the concept can change the direction of how Classical music evolves in the future.

"The Naadyatra journey with its challenges and promises has evolved into a three pronged approach towards changing the landscape of Classical music. It has worked on the level of the individual's approach towards music, it has worked to create a social impact through music and it is now striving towards impacting the standards and framework of musical appreciation and performance."
